Home improvement is not just about improving the home that you live in. If you are clever, you can often tweak and improve your home just before selling it, adding some extra flair that might draw in another buyer or give you a way to get slightly more money from the sale.

If you are smart, you can even rely on some home improvement tricks that do not have that much practical value. As long as the perceived value of the house increases, you are able to sell for a little more – and that extra money can go a long way.
Repaint the Walls
While paint colors are subjective and nobody likes the exact same style, repainting your home to some neutral colors can be a great tactic. Not only do they tend to attract the most buyers (since the whites and greys are not tied to a specific style), but they can also make the home seem cleaner.
If your existing wallpaper or paint is not holding up well, then this is an even more useful trick. It allows you to cover over spoiled paint or replace wallpaper that is far past its prime, making it more likely that the space will look well-kept as long as the paint is dry by the time buyers arrive.
Remember that neutral colors can also really help buyers picture themselves in the home. It allows them to consider their own design changes and paint colors, which can sometimes nudge them over the edge if they are sitting on the fence.
Rework the Kitchen
The kitchen is the core of a home, so having a better kitchen can sometimes be a major selling point to some buyers. Do not be afraid to add something like an island, or even just replace the cupboard doors with something more stylish.
The nicer your kitchen looks, the more willing people will be to buy the home, even if the kitchen is functionally and practically the same as their own. You do not need to do much major work – just the smaller things can make a big difference.
One other similar trick is to leave some kitchen appliances behind when you move or sell the house. It is only a small detail, but some people might feel tempted by the kitchen if they can see a stylish-looking coffee maker – especially if they do not have one of their own.
Try Waterproofing
Waterproofing does not take much time and effort to manage, but a lot of people never even consider it. Not only does it save a lot of money in the long term, but it also means that you can improve the value of the home without even really doing anything.
Replacing pipes and cleaning gutters is a good start, as is cleaning up any cracks in older parts of the roof or floor. Test everything in your home and look for leaks or waterproofing issues, then fix them.
Not only does this means that you can add “waterproof” to the list of selling points, but it also means that the home will not get damaged by water while it is empty and waiting to be bought by somebody.
Remove the Clutter
If you are still living in or taking care of your home before selling it, then decluttering is a great option. The more organized your home looks, the more likely a potential buyer will be to actually buy it, and not always for the reasons that you might think.
First, a home that is obviously cluttered can still feel like somebody else’s home, and that can turn away some buyers who feel uncomfortable knowing that they are taking over another person’s house. It might also lead to them being less comfortable during the showing too.
More importantly, a clean house allows them to insert themselves into the space, making it easier for them to imagine how the house will look once they take over. Like the wall repainting, keeping everything neutral can help a lot with this kind of house viewing.
Finally, there is the fact that a cluttered house often looks much less clean. Not only are buyers going to be more interested in a house that does not look messy, but they will also be able to see that there are no obvious signs of damage, leaks, or cracks on any surface.
Improve the Curb
The front of your home will always be the first thing that buyers see, so try to improve the exterior. Landscape some rough patches of ground, toss weeds in one of our reliable and durable dumpsters, repaint the front, or even just start adding some more lawn decorations.
You want the space to be as appealing as possible, and the outside of your home is no exception. Major changes to your home’s exterior can cost a lot, so focus on the smaller things, like colors that pop or a design that can really draw in potential buyers.
Having something like a bench outside or a tire swing in the back garden makes a difference, too – even if those things were only placed there for the showering. You do not need to include things that you will actually use. You just want to give potential buyers more reasons to be interested in your home.
Whatever you do, remember that you want your home to sell for as much as possible, so adding any kind of value to the property can make a huge difference. The more it is worth, the more you can sell it for.
