When the leaves fall and the nights get darker, it can be hard to keep the family entertained. This is why the fall is such a great time for crafts, and there is a huge range of ideas to try out from across the internet.

To get into the spirit of the season, the best fall DIYs will require you to get outside and be close to the changing nature. Acorns are everywhere at this time of the year, and not only are they fun for kids to collect, but they can also be used in countless crafting ventures.

Cheap and transparent rates on rental dumpsters in Montgomery County come standard with all orders through EWM Dumpster Rental.

Whether you want to decorate for the season without breaking the bank or are looking for a way to keep the kids entertained, the following three acorn DIYs are a must-try this fall.

Save Money This Fall

As a way to welcome the new season, a lot of people like to decorate their homes. While fall décor can be cute and fun, it is also overpriced, which is why making your own pieces is the best option.

Instead of buying things that are made to look like acorns, why not use the real thing and collect them from your yard for free?

Spend some quality time with the family, and welcome in the new season together with your homemade pieces. It is easier than you think to make acorn DIYs and a great way to spend a free fall afternoon.

Craft #1: Acron Cap Ornament

This is a simple and fun DIY that people of all ages can get involved in. Using acorns and some simple crafting tools, you can make a fall-themed ornament that will look great around the house.

What You Need

  • Acorn caps
  • Craft paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Floral wire
  • 3-inch styrofoam ball
  • Narrow ribbon
  • Glitter (silver)
  • Mod podge
  • Hot glue gun

How To

  1. Paint the styrofoam ball with the craft paint, making sure all the white is covered
  2. Once the paint is dry, start to push the acorn caps into the styrofoam. While this should be easy to do, it is best to add a small dap of glue on each cap to make sure they stay in place
  3. Bend the floral wire in half and stab it into the ball so there is a hoop sticking out from the top
  4. Tie the ribbon around the wire hook and secure it in a loop for hanging
  5. Paint mod podge onto the acorn caps and then sprinkle glitter over the entire ornament
  6. Allow to dry completely before hanging

Craft #2: Acorn Picture Frame

This is a simple and cheap DIY that can be used to make a unique gift or for some home décor that can take pride of place all year long.

What You Need

  • Hot glue gun
  • Acorn caps
  • Picture frame

How To

  1. Separate the caps from the acorns before starting this DIY. For a standard 8″ by 10″ photo frame, you will need around 60 acorn caps
  2. Using the glue gun, put glue all around the photo frame. You can cover the whole frame at once or take it in sections if you want to be more precise
  3. Simply press the acorn caps into the glue on the frame, making sure to cover the whole thing
  4. Allow the glue to dry before displaying

Craft #3: Acorn Napkin Ring

The fall is the perfect occasion to bring around family and friends for a hearty meal at the dining table. With Thanksgiving coming up this season, too, there are plenty of occasions for a dinner party which is why this next DIY is such a suitable one for this time of year.

What You Need

  • Acorns
  • Power drill
  • Wire

How To

  1. The first step is to gather the acorns for this project. The number of acorns you will need will vary based on how many napkin rings you will be making, but each ring requires around 15 acorns depending on their size and the bulkiness of your napkins
  2. Once you have collected all the acorns, drill two holes into the side of each acorn using the power drill
  3. Now thread the wire through the holes, making sure to alternate between the acorns on the top and bottom for a more uniform appearance
  4. Twist the wire closed once you have reached the end and trim off the excess
  5. Slide a napkin through the hole and place it onto your autumn-themed table
