A solid dumpster is not just a useful tool for your home but for all kinds of commercial businesses. Hotels are one of the biggest victims of being trashed by guests, and unfortunately, that does not just extend to the general public – there have been times where even trusted celebrities go wild.

EWM Dumpster Rental is a leading waste management services provider in Blackwood, New Jersey.

Does this make a difference to the average person? Not really, but the amount of damage that one person can do to a business is astounding, and the clean-up can take a lot longer than you might think. With celebrities involved, some of the damage became even more extreme and nigh impossible to stop.

Here are five cases where hotels were unprepared for their celebrity guests and the damage that they would cause.

Charlie Sheen at the Plaza Hotel

New York’s Plaza Hotel suffered a major setback when Charlie Sheen had an awful reaction to some medication two months after his last rehab stay. Flying into a nearly-nude whirlwind of damage and disruption, he trashed his entire hotel suite and left his girlfriend so terrified that she locked herself in the suite bathroom.

It might not sound like much, but a single room’s worth of damage earned him not just a lifetime ban but a bill for over $7,500. Almost everything had to be thrown out, and the damage to the hotel took a while to repair.

Amanda Bynes at the Ritz Carlton

Amanda Bynes has been known for multiple mental health issues, including bipolar disorder, as well as substance abuse. In one single night, the lone celebrity guest managed to do $9,000 worth of damage to the famous hotel, even ripping out a smoke detector and putting people at risk of fire hazards.

The room was coated in ash, food and drink containers, used beauty products, and countless unreadable notes. Her window was also shattered when she threw drug paraphernalia out of the window, and she was herded back to her parent’s home – where she set fire to her own dog by accident.

Florence Welch at the Bowery Hotel

Florence Welch famously left a single candle burning in her room, which set fire to a nearby book. The flames spiraled out of control and eventually coated the walls in ash, presumably helped by the amount of alcohol laying around thanks to a hefty drinks bill.

This damage is a lot tamer than the other examples, but it still required the entire room to be replaced, with the walls basically having to be rebuilt and cleaned while nearly everything else was deep-cleaned or thrown away.

Miley Cyrus at the Greenwich Hotel

Miley Cyrus managed to cause a lot of indirect damage to a hotel by storming into the lobby with a posse of friends and hangers-on (some of which were openly smoking drugs), screaming obscenities and then causing chaos in the lobby with nobody able to calm her down.

Miley made sure to point out – quite loudly – that she had spent enough money at the hotel in the past and that she was free to do whatever she wanted with the space. Details are not known about her hotel room itself, but it was presumably in a pretty poor state when she left.

Lindsey Lohan at Union Square (and Chateau Marmont)

Lindsey Lohan caused an extreme amount of damage to two different places, with the first being her Union Square apartment. Over $50,000 in damages was totaled up, including a complete replacement of all the flooring due to the massive amount of cigarette burns all across the surface.

Equally bad was the $46,000 bill at Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles, which she allegedly still has not paid. Not only did she run through the hallways almost naked, but she intentionally burned the carpet, all of which had to be replaced. It sounds minor, but it cost a lot to repair.

Why does this damage happen?

Who knows! Celebrities are just people, and even the most normal people can have moments where they completely destroy a room for no clear reason. Drugs, medication, alcohol, stress, mental health issues… there are a whole host of different reasons for this kind of damage to happen.

The key takeaway is that it does happen. If you run a business, then you will run into people that cause problems at that business. Hotel rooms get destroyed, bathrooms get vandalized or damaged, and entire spaces can be shredded to pieces by customers who do not give a damn about your property.

Why does this matter?

If celebrities are capable of utterly destroying their hotel rooms, then there is no telling what regular people can do. Businesses like hotels have often struggled to deal with customers that decide to set fire to their carpets, stain their beds, or disassemble the smoke detector for no good reason.

When it comes to this kind of damage, a dumpster rental is important. It not only makes it easy to throw everything away, but it also minimizes the effort involved in actually throwing away the ruined materials: something that can be important if the entire room needs to be replaced.

If you are a business owner, then consider looking into a dumpster rental of your own. We offer a huge range of different options, all of which are ideal for handling unexpected damage or trashed rooms in hotels. Even if you do not run a hotel, customers are sometimes going to cause more damage than they reasonably should.
